If the latest recalls make you squirm and conjure up images of dead chickens from Food Inc, never fear! There are lots of farmers in West Michigan who produce safe, organic eggs from humanely treated chickens. Now more than ever it’s quite obvious that for one’s own safety, it’s important to find a farmer you can trust.
Here are some of them from right around here:
Grassfields Cheese (Coopersville; they have also offered poultry raising workshops in the past)
Buggy Ridge Farms (Edmore)
Country Girl Gardens (Muskegon)
Crane Dance Farm (Middleville)
Creswick Farms (Ravenna)
Heikes Farm (Vicksburg)
Lubbers Family Farm (Grand Rapids, MI)
Of course, you may also find some neighbors who raise chickens if you live outside the city limits. Speaking of which, the Urban Laying Hens . . . Chickens for Grand Rapids group has not given up! See why Lisa Rose Starner is calling for a revote.
If you live in an area that does allow them, and you’d like to try your hand at raising them yourself, check out Backyard Chickens.com.
So how about you? Where do you get your eggs?

SO glad we have our own tiny flock! Who can you trust anymore? Your local farmer!
